This pattern is called 3G Crochet Beanie-Beret. Wait… why is this pattern called “3G Crochet Beanie-Beret”? Well… several of the rows of the hat are worked in a pattern which is comprised of groups of 3 double crochet stitches – hence the “3G”, which stands for “groups of three”. And, I’m not sure whether this hat is a true beanie or more of a beret… so it’s a Beanie-Beret!
This hat uses an I (5.50 mm) crochet hook, and worsted weight yarn. I used Red Heart With Love yarn in Lettuce for the hat shown. I've also used other worsted weight yarns with good results for this hat pattern.

Top View: This is what the hat looks like when laid out flat in a circle. You can see the areas where the patterned rows leave spaces in the hat - similar to a checkerboard.

*** Note: Please excuse my... err... "beautiful" head model. It's homemade. Until I get enough money to buy a good head model, this one will have to do. Oh well. At least it's purple!
